Short Life Signifigant Light
how do you say goodbye
to the beginnings of a soul
a beautiful girl fast becoming a woman
in deaths forbidding hole
silent are the footsteps
blinding is her chair
that sits across the bedroom
where once she brushed her hair
this world is madness
this life is a lie
as i sit and watch the promise
of a future pass us by
future is as future does
it holds the now just because
it’s never what it seems
how do you play pretend
so people feel secure
their hope won’t shatter in an instant
like it did for her
like it did for us
like it did for me
like it will day by day
until we stop and see
tomorrow is never promised
the past is set in stone
the now we hold
till we grow old
will make or break our home
future is as future does
it holds our hope just because
it’s subject to our God
we thought we new his goodness
we thought we new his love
yet loss has left us speechless
as we scream at him above
you can’t imagine
the hollow place
this life now greets
with warm embrace
the words come out
in ways you expect
as I die inside from
from this neglect
i can’t help but ask him
WHY
where do we go from here
how does light shine
when hope disappears
where is the wonder
when her smile is gone for good
i know what you hope i say
yet don't know that I really could
rachel was a shot of light
that danced with us for days
though full of doubt
she'd stomp that out
in many special ways
her hugs released such kindness
her laugh would heal a room
she learned to give
is how to live
and not to be consumed
future is as future does
it shares her light now just because
she is in us now
so now that why has brought us madness
that rips away our gut
lets change the question in our sadness
and stop to ask God what
what are you doing
with this loss
that seems to me
holds too much cost
Rachel’s life
her legacy
now lives on
in you and me
instead of asking
why again
I now reach out to
Christ my friend
and trust his eternal plan
his love brought her to us
in the first place
those eyes so kind
were made from his grace
how do you say goodbye
to our daughter, our niece,
our granddaughter our friend
we shift goodbye
with tearful eyes
for this is not the end
God is love
he holds her now
her light and life
in us somehow
may her light shine
with each step I take
reflecting acts of kindness
now for rachel’s sake
future is as future does
it connects us all just because
it unites us after death
goodbye for now sweet Rachel
selfishly ill miss you
there beyond the moon
go be ridiculous with Jesus
well be together soon
